Unassuming and relatively young, Sohag’s significance as a holy site of worship for the ancient Romans and Coptic Christians remains largely unnoticed. While the city itself has few sights and foreign visitors are few and between, the many well-furnished temples and monuments, as well as the renowned White and Red Monasteries, are worth a visit.
